Information to follow gathered by Alex Heumann's capstone project, which included interviews from 13 different OT business owners and 31 different OT non-business owners. The questions for both the survey and the interview was based upon the research question-
"What are the perceived and actual experiences of OTs in relation to entering private practice?"

Alex Heumann OTD, BS Psychology
Owner
Alex Heumann was born and raised in San Juan Capistrano. Dedicated to supporting his community, Alex is a Dr. of Occupational Therapy, Ex-Professional athlete, and an Eagle Scout.
Hobbies are surfing and former professional baseball player, Alex has been an athlete throughout his life and is passionate about adaptive sports. He has actively supported this field by teaching adapted Kinesiology for the aquatic and sports programs at Saddleback College, as well as volunteering with various organizations using surf therapy. In addition to working with people with disabilities, Alex completed fieldwork experience with Interfaith where he worked with the homeless population as an aspiring occupational therapist. Alex has been a part of the Surf and Turf Therapy team for many years, first as volunteer, then as a surf therapy aide, and now as a doctoral student completing his capstone project with the program. Following graduation in April 2022 with his occupational therapy doctorate from University of St Augustine’s in San Marcos, Alex will realize his lifelong passion to integrate aquatics and surf therapy into nontraditional therapies, by joining the Surf and Turf Therapy team as a doctor of occupational therapy.
